June 11, 2018 – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the CSX Field at Baybrook Park on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. This athletic field is the result of partnerships between the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and CSX, Under Armour, The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, LISC, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and the Baltimore Ravens. The new field will be gifted to and maintained by Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks. Representing the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation at the ribbon cutting ceremony included Cal Ripken, Jr., Baseball Hall of Famer and Ripken Foundation vice-chairman, and Steve Salem, President and CEO. To date, the Foundation has completed 78 multi-purpose, synthetic turf facilities throughout the United States, with 13 completed in Maryland and 10 in Baltimore City. Lewis Contractors completed nine of the 10 facilities in Baltimore City.
CSX Field at Baybrook Park offers a multi-purpose, synthetic surface designed for football and soccer. Features include an advanced lighting system, football and soccer goal posts, a digital scoreboard and accessible bleachers. The fields will serve as the home field of the Ben Franklin High School Bayhawks athletic programs, as well as a venue for graduation ceremonies and utilization by the surrounding community. This new youth sports facility will provide a safe, collaborative environment for students and local youth to continue to grow and develop. At the groundbreaking, the Honorable Kenneth C. Holt, secretary of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, stated, “This field can galvanize the future of this community with hope for revitalization.”
Along with the completion of CSX Field at Baybrook Park, Lewis Contractors has also completed other fields for the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, including the Babe Ruth Field at St. Agnes Hospital, Archbishop Curley High School, Banner Field at Latrobe Park, Eddie Murray Field at James Mosher Elementary School, and Park Heights Youth Fields.
