August 27, 2018 – The USTA has announced that Columbia Association’s Long Reach Tennis Club in Columbia, MD, is one of 24 winners in the 37th annual USTA Facility Awards program, which recognizes excellence in the construction and/or renovation of tennis facilities throughout the country. Lewis Contractors served as Construction Manager for Columbia Association’s new award-winning facility.
This project involved the construction of a new prefabricated metal building which houses an indoor tennis pavilion, consisting of six USTA standard size climate-controlled hard courts with available PlaySight SmartCourt technology. The courts offer energy efficient lighting that helps players with visibility and offers a better playing experience. Other features include two levels of viewing and an on-site restringing service, the first Columbia Association site with this feature. Long Reach Tennis Club offers various programs such as a junior development and competition program, USTA tennis teams, adult instructional program and cardio tennis.
Facilities were judged on the following criteria: overall layout and adaptation to site; excellence of court surface and lights; ease of maintenance; accommodations for players, spectators and press/officials; aesthetics; graphics (including the use of signs and landscaping); amenities such as casual seating for spectators, food services and social areas; and participation in USTA programs.
In addition to the Long Reach Tennis Club Project, Lewis is also a General Contractor On-Call for the Columbia Association. Since 2013, Lewis has completed approximately half a million dollars worth in enhancements to Columbia Association’s facilities throughout Howard County. These projects have included the Horse Rink Renovation, the Hockey Rink Renovation, the Haven on the Lake Improvements, the Locust Park Egress Improvements, the Supreme Sports Club New Yoga Wall, Athletic Club Roof, and Overpass Repairs.
The Long Reach Tennis Club will be honored at the USTA Semi-annual Meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City on August 30.
