November 21, 2016 – Along with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, Lewis Contractors celebrated the completion of Babe Ruth Field and the groundbreaking of the new Eddie Murray field in Baltimore.
The new Babe Ruth Field at Gibbons Commons, located across Caton Avenue from St. Agnes Hospital in southwest Baltimore, is The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation’s 60th “Youth Development Park” nationwide. Named after George Herman “Babe” Ruth, the multi-purpose, synthetic turf field is located on the site of the former Cardinal Gibbons School where the baseball legend learned to play the game.
In West Baltimore on Friday, ground was broken on the new Eddie Murray Field at BGE Park with baseball greats Cal Ripken Jr., Eddie Murray and Brooks Robinson in attendance. The park will be one of seven the foundation has built in Baltimore’s under-served neighborhoods.
These fields mark Lewis Contractors’ eighth and ninth projects with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. Past projects on which Lewis has served include; Park Heights Youth Park; Cal, Sr.’s Yard in Aberdeen; Memorial Field at the Y of Central Maryland in Baltimore; Banner Field at Latrobe Park; the beep baseball field at The Maryland School for the Blind; and Ryan Zimmerman Field in Washington D.C.
