June 1, 2022 – When Lewis Contractors was engaged to restore the Roland Water Tower, among the many improvements was the restoration of the historic belvedere which is one of the most intricate portions of the iconic building. Prior to its restoration, the belvedere had become home to a pair of peregrine falcons, so work to this portion of the structure was closely coordinated with the mating and fledging activities of the pair. A new nesting box was put into place under the guidance of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and all hoped that it would be attractive to the falcons who would return to resume their annual residence.

We are pleased to report that the box has indeed proven to be acceptable as a new generation of these raptors will soon take flight from what is certainly the highest condominium in the Roland Park area.
