February 8, 2023 – Upperco Volunteer Fire Company held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday afternoon, February 4th, to celebrate the completion of their new fire station located in Upperco, MD.  The Upperco Volunteer Fire Company was recently created as a merger of the Arcadia and Boring Fire Companies into one unified company—Station 85.  To join in the commemoration of the new fire house, over a hundred people were in attendance including local dignitaries, volunteer fire company members, and community partners.  As part of the celebration, members and special guests of the fire community were able to tour the new facility with plans to hold another open house for the community in the Spring.

This project totaling over $8M consisted of the construction of an approximately 20,000 SF single-story fire station.  The new facility—built on a 6.5 acre undeveloped site located directly off of the main response artery—will allow for faster response times and increase the responders coverage areas.  The five bay fire station is equipped with a large apparatus bay including 3 pull through bays and 2 half bays, apparatus support spaces, turnout gear storage, and a dedicated decontamination area for the first responders and their gear. The living space consists of a kitchen, dayroom, multiple offices, conference room, individual bunk rooms, and a communal open bunk room. The building also houses a training classroom to be utilized for departmental training, continuing education, and community events for up to 50 people.

“Lewis is proud to be a part of such a special event and the construction of such a significant local resource that will have a positive impact on our community. The new facility will serve our neighbors and the place in which we live and work.  We are truly honored that we could help bring it to fruition,” said Tyler Tate, P.E., President of Lewis Contractors.
