ABOUT US

We are Marylanders building in Maryland for Marylanders

Led by a third-generation builder, Lewis is family owned and has provided award-winning construction services since 1966.

Passionate professionals, Lewis has focused our efforts in the non-profit, academic, institutional, and historic sectors—restoring structures from ages past for ages to come and constructing new buildings to enhance the lives of the people we serve.

Driven by this passion and united by purpose, we stand today upon the pillars of our founder’s original vision – honesty, integrity, and customer service—creating a lasting impact on the people and communities we serve.

We are a mid-sized firm providing a national firm’s full suite of services, where executives remain personally involved with our clients and their projects.

At Lewis, we embed ourselves into the culture and vision of our clients, becoming a true partner in their construction journey, and the fact that clients call upon us time and again to return to their campuses to continue to work with them is the highest compliment in our industry.

Our skilled team of professionals includes project managers who are in their own right estimators, estimators who have generational experience in the field and their position, engineers, architects, and craftsmen fully capable of self-performance on our projects.

Lewis is a proactive construction manager who thinks ahead, providing holistic construction services, accurate estimating, emerging technologies, and innovative solutions that make a difference for our clients, employees, and the community.

Exceptionally diverse and inclusive, our pool of trade contractor partners complements our portfolio—from museum quality restoration to highest-level scientific and security installations. The trade contracting community WANTS to work with Lewis—our clients benefit from this desire.

COMMUNITY

Originally founded and still located in Owings Mills, MD, Lewis has intentionally focused on serving the greater Maryland marketplace.  Our employees call this beautiful State home, and we make every effort to hire Maryland residents and to partner with local trade contractors and suppliers.  Lewis continues to be committed to the growth of Maryland in general and Baltimore and its surrounding counties specifically. We intentionally foster the growth of small and emerging businesses and work to bring gainful employment opportunities to those with whom we live.

HISTORY

In 1966, Henry H. Lewis founded his construction company on three basic principles: i) Integrity—being honest, truthful, and fair with customers and alike; ii) Quality—leaving behind successful projects that are nothing short of ‘world class’; and iii) Client advocacy—starting in preconstruction, leaving no stone unturned in maximizing value, leveraging experience, and minimizing headaches for the customer. Using these principles, the firm became renowned in the marketplace, and now, more than a half-century later, they remain the very basic tenets of who Lewis Contractors is today.

Principally focused upon the metropolitan Baltimore area, the Lewis portfolio of work represents some of the area’s most venerable structures—private and public schools, colleges and universities, faith-based institutions, historic restoration, scientific, medical, and high-tech spaces among them.

Throughout our history, Lewis Contractors has flourished by enjoying the greatest compliment our clients could bestow: repeat business.  We are a team of Builders, not Brokers.  Our people enjoy their work—our Clients benefit from our award-winning service.

Lewis actively worked to coordinate the additional work and incorporate it into the current sequence of construction with minimal impact. Lewis' ability to accommodate these and other additional scope items while meeting the completion date and providing work of the highest quality secured the success of the project.

These facilities constructed by Lewis have drawn national and international attention…visitors have reported that they had never seen such quality in construction, uniqueness in design, and functionality benefits for the students.

Lewis creatively came up with possible ways to solve unforeseen problems, all while dealing with an inexperience but enthusiastic customer. We were thrilled with not only the end result but also with the overall experience over the course of the planning and construction.
