About
Award winning construction management and general contracting since 1966.
At Lewis, we love to build. It’s what we do. For over 50 years, our passion for building has Lewis Contractors engaged in myriad academic, institutional, restoration, industrial, and commercial projects. Delivering a tradition of excellence, innovative thinking, and attention to detail to each and every project, Lewis brings value to its partnerships by applying its half-century of knowledge and expertise from the design phase to the ribbon-cutting and beyond.
Having worked with some of the region’s most respected institutions, Lewis has created a robust portfolio of high-profile projects and has flourished over the years by enjoying the greatest compliment its clients could bestow repeat business.

History
When Henry H. Lewis founded his construction company in 1966, he adhered to three basic principles: i) integrity—be honest, truthful, and fair with customers and subcontractors alike; ii) quality—leave behind successful projects that are nothing short of ‘world class’; and iii) client advocacy—starting in preconstruction, leave no stone unturned in maximizing value, leveraging experience, and minimizing headaches for the customer. In the ensuing decades, Henry built a successful business and a golden reputation based on these three principles. They are the very same principles we live by today.
Lewis Contractors has flourished over the years by enjoying the greatest compliment its clients could bestow: repeat business. By focusing on Metropolitan Baltimore’s most venerable institutions—private schools, colleges, churches and medical care facilities—we have developed a vast knowledge of building issues, a proven ability to stage and phase construction in and around occupied buildings and sites, and experience working with committees.
We draw upon our history and experience as we continue to embrace positive change in the construction industry. Starting in the late 1980s, we began to perform CM-at-Risk projects. Moving with industry developments, we compete for an increasing number of construction management contracts each year. CM-at-Risk projects now encompass a majority of our workload. Through these experiences, we have developed a reputation as a proactive construction manager who thinks ahead. Today, institutional and academic projects comprise approximately three-quarters of our total work volume, with projects ranging in size from tens of thousands to tens of millions of dollars.
Our long-standing reputation within the industry across many segments has equipped us with a wealth of experience, as well as a large following of trusted and skilled subcontractors to draw upon within the Baltimore region.
