Commercial
Over the years, Lewis Contractors has successfully completed many commercial projects of various sizes—often with complex scope elements. These experiences, paired with our long history working in occupied settings and urban environments, leave us uniquely prepared to provide comprehensive, proactive, remarkably valuable preconstruction services prior to construction. Time after time, our upfront input regarding design, scheduling, pricing and constructability leads to smoother schedules, fewer surprises, tighter budget control and a higher degree of quality.
Bare Hills Office Building

The project entailed construction of a new 6-story office building on Clarkview Road in Baltimore County. Office fit-outs of the first, second, fifth and sixth (top) floors were completed as part of this new building project—these spaces are the headquarters of a nationwide financial services provider. The new 54,000 square foot building and its distinctive sloped roof—unique for an office building design—are easily visible while travelling north on the Jones Falls Expressway.
It should be noted that through efficient and effective management, as well as proactive thinking on the part of Lewis and the design team, the project was completed for $400,000 below the original $11,500,000 budget, for a savings of 3-4%. Change-orders were relatively few, because of Lewis’s early involvement. This value is a total savings, net of any added costs encountered during construction—the project was “change-order negative.”
Farmers and Merchants Bank Fit-Out

The project involved bank branch shell construction and tenant fit-out for Farmers and Merchants Bank in Owings Mills, MD. Work included fit-out and final commissioning for the Bank. Project highlights included coordinating vault installation, as well as the installation of teller and security equipment. Work was completed within budget and on-schedule.
One East Pratt Street Building Renovation

This project involved the renovation of the One East Pratt Street building in Baltimore. Base building upgrades included new lobby finishes, a new curtainwall system and storefront upgrades, modernization of seven traction elevators, and life-safety upgrades such as the installation of a new sprinkler system. Exterior upgrades included new brick pavers, exposed aggregate sidewalks, a handicap ramp, and valet lane.
The project was conducted in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor district, with little to no lay-down area. The project was completed in 6 phases, on an aggressive schedule.
Prologue New Headquarters Building

This project involved construction of a new headquarters building for Prologue—a social services organization. Work included the construction of administrative and corporate office areas, client service areas, counseling areas, training rooms and a full kitchen/cafeteria. Work included demolition of existing structures on site, site development, and construction of the new three level facility. An extensive storm water management system was constructed at the site, with five sand filters installed below grade. Air handling equipment was fully concealed in a very tight attic space.

Weinberg Foundation Headquarters Renovation & Tenant Fit-Out

In 1996, Lewis Contractors completed the headquarters for the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the United States. The project site was previously a dumping area for unsuitable soils, and, consequently, overcoming geotechnical issues was a high priority on the project. The building has a steel structure with a Roman brick pattern used at the building exterior. This type of veneer, used mainly during the turn of the century, is rarely used today due to the amount of care required in the coursing. If laid incorrectly, the human eye perceives a “wavy” pattern in the coursing. The finished product is a fine example of superior masonry craftsmanship. Natural cherry millwork was extensively used throughout the interior, and polished aluminum railing was used at the main entrance stair.
