Friends School of Baltimore | Middle & Upper School Math & Science Classroom Addition
This project included the construction of a new middle school, upper school math and science classroom addition, fire access road, tennis courts, and parking facility at the Friends School of Baltimore. Work also included the renovation of existing portions of the upper school building. All work was staged in the center of an occupied K-12 academic campus, without incident. Ailing campus infrastructure was repaired/replaced as the project progressed.
Work was completed on an aggressive schedule and built to LEED standards, such that green building elements in the areas of sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality were incorporated such that the “Certified” level of LEED certification would have been achieved. However, the Owner declined registering the project with USGBC. Highlights include the installation of seventy-five 400-foot geothermal wells, purposeful site selection, the use of polymeric roof slates fabricated from recycled tires, simple polished concrete finished floors, and the extensive use of recycled wood products and rapidly renewable materials.
